The story goes like this: Thomas wakes up in an elevator, remembering nothing but his own name. He emerges into a world of about 60 teen boys who have learned to survive in a completely enclosed environment, subsisting on their own agriculture and supplies. A new boy arrives every 30 days. The original group has been in "The Glade" for two years, trying to find a way to escape through the Maze that surrounds their living space. They have begun to give up hope. Then a comatose girl arrives with a strange note, and their world begins to change. There are some great, fast-paced action scenes, particularly those involving the nightmarish Grievers who plague the boys.

The Maze Runner is of action, sci-fi, mystery, thriller genre, which runs for approximately 113 minutes. It's rated PG-13 in most countries for thematic elements and intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, including some disturbing images. The movie reminded me of the mobile game, Temple Run and the film, The Hunger Games. It has a very dark tone with a very mysterious storyline. You'll only get a clear idea of what's happening towards the end of the film. The movie may seem odd but I liked it and enjoyed watching it. Just a tip: be prepared for some scenes not for the squeamish. The Maze Runner is available in 2D and IMAX.

RATING: 4 out of 5 STARS
